Angus Chan is a Programme Manager and Teaching Assistant in the School of English at the University of Hong Kong (HKU). He tutors courses in English Language and Linguistics and Language and Communication. He read English Studies at HKU, during which period he was awarded a one-year visiting studentship to study English Language and Literature at the University of Oxford. His teaching and research interests centre broadly on sociolinguistics, with particular foci in historical sociolinguistics (from the eighteenth century to the present day), variationist sociolinguistics and World Englishes (especially in Asian contexts). He also has research interests in the areas of discourse analysis and intercultural pragmatics. From 2022 to 2024, he served as a Research Assistant and, latterly, a Project Manager for the HKU Research Impact and Initiative on Communication in Healthcare (RIICH), where he provided administrative and research support for two government-funded research projects on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on university graduates’ transitions to the (post-pandemic) workforce in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. He remains an Affiliated Researcher with HKU RIICH. At present, Angus serves as an advisory board member for a Hong Kong Research Grants Council Collaborative Research Fund project entitled, "University graduates' transitions to post-covid-19 workplaces: The impacts of the pandemic and adjusting to ""new normal"" work orders" (C7075-23W) and an advisor for the Stand By Me Program offered by Resolve Foundation, a local non-governmental organization.
